To begin, you'll need these ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon dishwashing detergent
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 2 cups warm water
- Bowl
- Clean white rags
- Cold water
- White paper towels
- Combine the dishwashing detergent, vinegar and warm water in the bowl. Dip the paper towel in the cleaning treatment and use it to blot the stain. Start from the outer area and work your way in. Never rub the stain because doing so will force the wine deeper into the carpet.
- If you don't have anything else on hand when the accident occurs, pour a generous amount of salt on the stain to keep it from setting and leave it there until you have the supplies to remove the stain.
- Vacuum up the salt before moving to the cleaning steps. Mix together the dish washing soap, white vinegar and warm water, as in step 1.
- Blot the cleaning solution on the stained area with a clean, white rag or paper towel. Begin at the outer edge of the stain and work your way in. Repeat as is necessary.
- If it's a stubborn stain, pour 1 part dishwashing soap and 2 parts hydrogen peroxide on the area. Before you try this, dab a small, hidden corner of the carpet to see if it becomes discoloured.
- Blot the area again with a clean white rag dipped in cold water after the stain has been removed.
- Blot again with dry paper towels or a dry, clean white rag.
- Enjoy your fresh, wine stain-free carpet.
